Uluwatu, otherwise known as 'Pura Luhur Uluwatu' (translated: land's end divine rock), prides itself on boasting one of the island's most spectacular temples. The inner sanctum of the shrine is majestically perched on the edge of a steep cliff that looks out over the outstanding surf breaks of southern Bali. Pura Luhur Uluwatu is regarded as one of the six most important temples in Bali, Pura Besakih being the principal one. Its location on the island’s south westernmost brim is believed to guard the Balinese people from evil spirits inhabiting the island's surrounding waters.
